Titus: A Comrade of the Cross – Dramatic Audio MP3 Download

(52 customer reviews)

In 1894 the publisher of this book rewarded Florence Kingsley with $1,000 for writing a story that would set a child’s heart on fire for Jesus Christ. In six weeks, the demand was so great that they printed 200,000 additional copies! Titus: A Comrade of the Cross is provocative, full of suspense and drama. The story of Titus and his crippled brother climaxes at the foot of the cross, where the real hero is proclaimed. The most compelling moment is saved until the very end—it will take your breath away.

Titus a Comrade of the Cross This would be one of my absolute favorite books of all of the Lamplighter’s. My sister and I, who read the book together, appreciated how, for the most part, the audio was very close to the book. There were of course some scenes of which they had to change to dramatize it but they weren’t of that much significance. If anyone has read both “Titus” and “Stephen” you will notice an alteration in the ending. We only hope that this change will not alter them making a “Stephen” as well. Still, I would say that it is my favorite Lamplighter dramatic audio!

Excellent!! I really enjoyed reading Titus and thoroughly enjoyed listening to this superb audio drama. I am excited to share this with my children because they are still too young to read the book. They have been so postively impacted by all of the audiodramas and the clear character lessons. I highly recommend this!!!!

Excellent Dramatization I knew Titus would be a hard challenge for dramatization. It is a longer book than many Lamplighter volumes and is easily in the top 5 favorites of everyone in our household. So I knew there would be many parts of the book that simply couldn’t make it into the dramatized version.

It is true that many of the details in the book were either left out or just quickly passed through, but the resulting drama is superb. The story is engaging and fast-paced from start to finish. It was particularly enjoyable to have John Rhys-Davies as Finian’s visitor as well as voicing one of the Sanhedrin in the dramatization.

    Well done!

Sacred Events I am very blessed by many of the dramas produced. Titus: A Comrade of the Cross was good but I was disturbed by some parts that I wish had been excluded. These parts included Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane & the Crucifixion. To re-inact our Savior during these events is too sacred a thing, I believe, to adequately match and imitate the gravity and holiness of our Lord’s suffering and payment for sin. I trust you will understand.

Great Way to Bring Gospels to Life This story provided an interesting perspective on the life and death of Jesus. It made us think about what it would have been like to have lived during that time and encountered the Messiah in the flesh. For us it brought the gospels to life in a new way. It was intense at times, as might be expected with a crucifixion.

Titus-A Comrade of the Cross We absolutely loved this Radio Drama, as with all Lamplighter Radio Dramas! It felt like we were back in biblical times and hearing about the daily lives of those characters. I love how my kids can be pointed toward the cross and the redeeming work that was accomplished there. I love the exposure! Lamplighter, you’ve done another remarkable job! Thank you!

For older children who can discern fact from fiction We really enjoyed it, but I would recommend it for older children who could make a list to divide the fact, from the fiction, from the speculation. Otherwise it could be confusing since the story is told so well and is so convincing. Probably ages 8 and up, depending on your children’s rational abilities.

Heart-Gripping Our family has purchased every single one of the Lamplighter audio stories and couldn’t wait for this one to come out. We were not disappointed! These stories are so incredibly well done, it is hard to put into words how highly I would recommend them. All members of our family never tire of listening to any and all of them over and over again.
This particular story is special because it is a glimpse of what life was like for those living at the time when Jesus walked the earth. The characters talk with Him, touch Him, are healed by Him, and are changed by Him. I listened in some parts with tears streaming down my face. Whether you read the original book (which we did) or not, you will absolutely love listening to Titus: A Comrade of the Cross. It will not only touch but grip your heart.

Highly Recommended This is a wonderful story that brings the Bible into a more graspable reach! You can feel with each one in the story as they walk through how it may have been in Bible times. Great work! Can’t wait for more!

Titus What a surprise! My two boys, ages 13 & 7, took a drive and no sooner than we climbed back into the truck after making several, individual stops, one of the boys was quick to say, “Can you put the CD on?”

I, too, was captivated by this well done story. We have come to expect a great deal, from Lamplighter regarding their dramatized audiobooks! They are very authentic and I feel as though I am a part of the script living out the story alongside the characters

Thank you for another well done production!

A Continuation of Excellence I listened to this audio drama expecting excellence. I have not been disappointed.

I enjoyed the book first, some time ago, which is part of the reason I was excited to see this story dramatized. For those who might find the King’s English difficult reading, this audio drama will open the story of the gospels in a new way to you and your family.

The drama was well crafted; however, I am glad I had read the book first to know what the beginning few scenes alluded to. They were probably more cryptic than they should have been. If you haven’t read the book, don’t let them discourage you. You will understand all — dramatically — in time.

The acting was superb — has Lamplighter ever anything less? — and the soundtrack was appropriate, though not extraordinary.

I am glad I purchased this audio drama. Buy it for you next road trip. You and your family won’t be sorry.

The Best Story Yet! This story is one of the best so far. It truly touched my heart. I have told all my friends and family about it. Thanks for creating such wonderful stories.

Titus A Comrade of the Cross The production was very well done. I have read the book first and it seems too much info was left out. However it was very easy to follow. I enjoyed it very much. This is one of my favorite stories.

Wonderful Story I enjoy all your Dramatic Theatre productions and this one is very good. It gives you a different perspective on nameless people in the Bible. It makes you think. Good job!

  24. anonymous (verified owner)

Very Good! I thought this audio drama was very good! It’s different than any drama they have ever done, probably because it was set in Biblical times. I highly recommend!

  25. anonymous (verified owner)

A MUST!!! We own all the Lamplighter dramas on CD. This is by far my favorite. The lives of many meet at the cross. How touching!

  26. anonymous (verified owner)

Best Production Yet! What a riveting story behind the story of scripture!

  27. anonymous (verified owner)

Excellent Radio Drama My three children, my wife, and I generally listen to audio books on long trips. I bought this one before a trip and my kids really enjoyed this one. They were asking, “What part of the Bible is that part in?” and other questions like that. The production quality is always high with Lamplighter. Keep up the good work! I can’t wait for the next one.

Titus: A Home Run It is with no hesitation whatsoever that I give “Titus: A Comrade of the Cross” a 5 star rating. It is the most powerful Lamplighter Theatre drama I have experienced thus far, and I have listened to several of them. This tale really exalts Jesus Christ. The gentleman who portrays him delivered a marvelous performance, and the actions and words of our Saviour in this drama provoked in me a desire to fall down at His feet and confess all over again that he is Lord and Christ. All the performers filled their roles splendidly, and the story itself, with its ironic twists and turns, is woven beautifully and faithfully around the Gospel story. I have no doubt that “Titus: A Comrade of the Cross” is going to be a blessing to many, and I trust that it will be a powerful tool of evangelism.

Titus Unexpectedly Good! When i put it in i was like “oh brother another bible story ” i usually turn them off because my imagination is usually better then an audio version, but this is really good –listened to it twice already and now they started it on the radio on sat.–only thing i don’t like is the over use of biblical names, but every audio bible story i have heard does it

  30. anonymous (verified owner)

Excellent Story! This story is a classic that takes you “behind the scenes” of the Gospel story. Well done.

  31. anonymous (verified owner)

Highly Recommended!!!! We first read the story and loved it. You felt like you were right there as the story unfolded. This is how it could have been between the lines. We could hardly wait for this one to be dramatized. We read book 2 “Stephen, a Soldier of the Cross” and it too is a very wonderful story. I truly recommend both of these stories and the dramatized cd. Our whole family loved this one as well as ALL of the Lamplighter stories. We anxiously wait for each one to come out and tell others about you all the time. Traveling is when we enjoy them best, but sometimes we can’t wait for a trip in order to enjoy them. Thank you so much for the wonderful stories.

Highly Recommended I enjoyed the sense of history evoked by this dramatic rendering. I was enthralled and listened to it all in one sitting 🙂 Thanks for creating this recording. I also liked the instant gratification of downloading it.

  33. anonymous (verified owner)

Not Highly Recommended. Usually the Lamplighter stories are excellent, and we highly recommend them. Titus: A Comrade of the Cross was a disappointment because it was fact and fiction together. I don’t think we should do this with the Bible. It is not an accurate account and I think if you do this with the Bible, people will get confused. Keep fiction and truth separate with Bible stories.

  34. anonymous (verified owner)

Must Hear! Titus was a heart-wrenching story. Definitely evoked many emotions. I would recommend this story to all!

  35. anonymous (verified owner)

Fabulous! Our family LOVED this! We know it is based fiction, yet it was done beautifully. We all really enjoyed it.

  36. anonymous (verified owner)

Great Story! I would highly recommend this audio drama! It was professionally done, and has a very moving and potentially life-changing story. Excellent!

  37. anonymous (verified owner)

Highly Recommened I absolutely love Lamplighter audio dramas, and Titus: A Comrade of the Cross is no exception!

I can’t really find the right words to express why I love them so much, but I’ll try to explain a little. The audio dramas are so well made, I don’t even realize I’m listening to a story because I’m taken right in. And the stories themselves are so captivating, wholesome, and thought provoking that I want to listen to more. They remind me of the brokenness of the world and of the grace of God. God’s ways are beautiful! I often cry out of thankfulness to God while listening to Lamplighter stories because they bring to light my regrets, my depravity, my fears, and my sufferings, but in such a way that I’m reminded of the healing and redemption in Christ Jesus.

Great Story Nice story. I enjoyed it.

Fantastic Great story–kept my 7 & 9 year olds very engaged . . . along with my wife and me. I love the way it ties in so many of the Gospel characters. Highly recommend this as a first choice from Lamplighter.

Highly Recommended Wonderful story and production that provokes thought, as well as love for God.

Lamplighter does it again A entertaining and interesting historical fiction. This enjoyable story tells of the struggles and challenges of a young gentile man named Titus, while threading the historical facts we have from Bible sending the eager listener back into the setting of New Testament times.

Moving!! A wonderful work! I was so blessed by the audio drama (after reading the book)! There were parts where I was moved to tears! I am SO thankful for Lamplighter Ministries! They have changed my life!

  43. anonymous (verified owner)

My Favorite! This was one of my favorite books. I really enjoyed listening to the dramatized version.

  44. anonymous (verified owner)

Excellent Very moving and thought provoking, demonstrating an excellent use of someone’s sanctified imagination for the glory of God. Christ forgives sinners and that is clearly and vividly portrayed in this dramatization.

  45. anonymous (verified owner)

Titus, Comrade of the Cross This was too dramatically intense for my children. We will only read the book in the future.

  46. anonymous (verified owner)

    Loved It! This is great!

  47. anonymous (verified owner)

Can be Confusing for Younger Children My children love listening to the audio stories however, after listening to this one, they became confused. Bible names were used so they began to assosiate the audio characters with the true characters in the Bible but it wasn’t the same people like Stephen and Titus. In my opinion, it’s not good to mix the Bible with fiction it confuses it with the real thing.

Titus: A Comarade of the Cross Excellent Story and Presentation

  49. anonymous (verified owner)

Beautiful Story of Redemption What a beautiful story of redemption! I sometimes have a hard time putting myself “inside” of Bible stories, but this audio makes me feel like I am hanging right there next to the thief on the cross. Although it is a fictionalized story, it still sticks very close the the true story of Jesus’s life and crucifixion. Thank you, Lamplighter, for another great audio drama!

Titus: A Comrade of the Cross EXCELLENT! We listen to your audiobooks when traveling. Really enjoyed this one!!! Great job!!

Loved Loved Loved This One! This one is probably my favorite so far. We were riveted as we listened during a long drive. We will NEVER look at the crucifixion the same way again. It was so moving. I drove with tears that day.

  52. anonymous (verified owner)

Highly Recommended! This story is one of my favorites! It was like a concise telling of Christ’s ministry on earth and how He greatly impacted so many lives in so little a time. To listen to what happened during His crucifixion of Christ and what He went through for us breaks your heart and really brings such a greater love for Him.
