MY FAVORITE THUS FAR! I think this story is one we can all relate to in some form or another. We are always trying to push good boundaries set to protect us. These Lamplighter stories have deeply impacted my life and have given me examples of what it looks like to walk by faith. I feel these books are like the stories in between the verses of the Bible showing you what it really looks like to walk by faith, struggle with our sin nature and learn more about who our Creator is and how amazing His unchanging character truly is. The Hedge of Thorns has blessed my life by seeing a new perspective on boundaries and times of suffering. It keeps me wondering that while enduring one trial, what might that trial have been protecting me from…..

Highly Recommended This reads like it’s a true story, is it? Anyway, since it does read like a true story, it really resonates with my soul speaking to the part of me that I know needs improvement, growth, and character building. I love the perspective of trying to see the hedges that Father in Heaven puts up for our good and benefit which reminds me of His great love and longsuffering for me.

Watching for Thorns I first heard a snippet of this story from Mark Hamby at the Teach Them Diligently Convention. A few months later we signed our daughter up for the Lamplighter book club. We were very anxious to receive this book so we could read the entire story. We were not disappointed! This was the first Lamplighter book I’ve read and we continually bring up the spiritual lesson we’ve learned from it. Thank you so much for bringing this story to light! Blessings!

Highly Recommend An excellent read for the entire family. I love how the author referred to scripture throughout the book. We were able to use examples from the book to teach moral issues in today’s world with our eight year old son. It’s definitely one of those books to own.

Best Book I Have Ever Read To My Kids. Mark Hamby hooked me with the beginning of this story . I bought it and read it to my kids. One chapter a night. My children were ages 4-18 at the time. They all listened and loved it.
Also, it is based on a true story. Very real.
A lot of these books are best when read out loud. For instance mother reads to daughter, father to daughter, father to son, and so on.. This book I think is best read by the father to the family. It’s strange though, the book is from the point of view of a young man and as he grows up a little. So, at least to me, it is easy for the kids to relate to because a boy is writing about himself. Additionally, it is all backed with scripture footnotes that can be looked up and read. So much truth.
I once heard someone say” the one that loves you the most, is the one who tells you the most truth”. Love your kids a lot, read them this book, They will never forget it.

Hedge Of Thorns Very well written. Another must have book for your the book shelf. It teaches very clear on accepting council from older people. I just read it and could not put it down till I was done with it.

One Of My Favorites The Hedge of Thorns is one of my favorites that we read to the children. This book shows that not only God puts a hedge around His children but as parents we do the same and the consequences that can come from wanting to leave this protection. I highly recommend this book.

AMAZING – POWERFUL – DEEP Borrowed and started reading this book at bed time with my 10 year old. The plan was 2 chapters a night…we stayed up late and finished the book that night; COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! It truly is amazing how much pure Biblical wisdom and a powerful story is packed into such a small book. I have bought 4 copies now. GREAT gift for ANYONE. We read this book yearly!

A MUST READ We read this as a family and my nine year old thought it was a great book. This is truly a page turner and it is so effective in teaching MANY things for both young and old alike. A great addition to any library and I believe this would make an excellent gift for any person. We are even considering going over this book in our youth group.

Best Book I Have Bought From Lamplighter My husband and I were loaned this book by a friend and read it all in one sitting. We decided we had to buy it for our own children and we highly recommend it to any parents. It’s filled with excellent moral teaching and presents the gospel in a understandable way for children.

Highly Recommended!! The Hedge of Thorns was the first Lamplighter book that our family of six…ages 48,46,19,16,15 and 10 read aloud together, and we ALL eagerly looked forward to each chapter every night we read!! It faithfully proclaims the goodness of our God and how wise and kind He is to reveal to us the narrow way of Christ by the power of His Spirit that we might trust and obey His precepts for our good and His glory!! Excellent Read with Audio Drama Read the book as a family (With a 13 & 10 year old, public school students). Both adults and kids liked it. (English is advanced so we will be re-reading the book with pencil in hand to learn some of the new vocabulary). After reading the book we listened to the audio theater CD. It too was excellent. The story on the audio deviates only slightly and is very, very well done. Highly recommend both in the order we did it. Book is based on a true story. The kids now want to visit City of Carlisle In England – the setting of the book. Only wish we knew the village name too so we can go searching for that Hedge from 1611.

Great Book I bought this book for a young boy in my church. I wanted to read it first to make sure it was appropriate for understanding consequences of one’s actions. I have not been acquainted with Lamplighter books very much. This is a perfect book for teaching children the need for obedience – especially when they have a disregard for the loving authority over them. Wonderful story, very Scriptural in its presentation.

Hedge Of Thorns This little book, “Hedge of Thorns” is a hidden nugget of gold that not many know of..It is full of Theological Truth. The sinful nature of man, God’s protection that HE brings through our trials, His great love through His Son Jesus Christ, and His Sovereign Hand over our lives.
