In 1894 the publisher of this book rewarded Florence Kingsley with $1,000 for writing a story that would set a child’s heart on fire for Jesus Christ. In six weeks, the demand was so great that they printed 200,000 additional copies! Titus: A Comrade of the Cross is provocative, full of suspense and drama. The story of Titus and his crippled brother climaxes at the foot of the cross, where the real hero is proclaimed. The most compelling moment is saved until the very end—it will take your breath away.

Highly recommended I have liked this book since its beginning. It was part of the original five that Mark reproduced. I bought these current copies for gifts to give.

A Powerful Story – A Truly Wonderful Book! From the first chapter this story grips your heart. “Titus: a Comrade of the Cross” is a remarkable story set in the time of our Lord Jesus’ ministry, death and resurrection. Many of the scenes are taken straight out of Scripture. The parts that are fictional in nature are beautifully added, reinforcing the grand truth of the One who came to seek and save those that are lost. The writer draws us into the lives of the people until we see that the crowds that follow Jesus where made of people like us. There were those who had sorrows and joys, hopes and doubts, fears, anger and weaknesses like ours. Among the crowds where those fraught with pain and haunted with guilt, those who were self confident caring for nothing but what was seen, those relying on their own righteousness, those drawn to Christ’s amazing word and miraculous deeds… and all of them in need of a Savior.

The plot has many twists and turns that keep you guessing. The story’s climax is very powerful!! As you watch lives transformed and changed by the man Jesus you will find yourself drawn to the One of whom it was truly prophesied: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19) The narrative is wonderfully written until you can see Jesus smile as He reaches out His hand to heal. Until you feel the power of His words as they enter into the hearts of those who so desperately need his Love and you will find that the One Who walked with them is with us still. Only He can free us with His Redeeming Love!

Titus: A Comrade of the Cross This is a wonderful book, that I and my second grade son are both enjoying. It really brings a new prospective to the miracles of our Lord. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would just like a good read, but be sure to have a dictionary handy, the langauge of the common man over 100 years ago, was much richer than what they teach in school today.

On Fire For Jesus Florence M. Kingsley’s book, Titus: A Comrade of the Cross, will truly set a child’s heart on fire for Jesus Christ with a passion. It definitely lit mine ablaze when I read it as a child for the first time.

Love It! I read a chapter to my 10 year old daughter every night. We love this book as it is adding more detailed context and understanding to many Bible passages about Jesus. She’s asking many questions and we are going to the Bible to see how the Bible records the events. You can’t help but grow more in love with Jesus through reading this book.

Wonderful Book This book was a blessing to me as I read this story of Jesus. It is well written using stories based on the Bible’s account of events during the life of Jesus and his death on the cross.
