Bishop’s Shadow

This is the story of a street boy who does the things
most destitute boys do. Tode lies and steals and cheats
as if without conscience, but beneath the crime and
grime is a human being capable of love.
The eyes of a child gazing into his own bring out
feelings that Tode has never felt before. Soon his selfabsorbed,
poverty-stricken existence explodes into a
fervent quest to help this child and his desperate sister.
From the day Tode meets the bishop, he is never the
same. No longer called Tode, but Theodore Bryan, he
tries to live up to his real name by following the example
of the one he admires. And that’s how a roguish street
boy becomes the bishop’s shadow.

Another Must Have This is another book where you fall in love with the characters and their journey. A must have in your library like “Teddy’s Button” and “The Lamplighter”.

Great Read for ALL! My son is 11 years old and loves reading Lamplighter books, but this one stands out as his new favorite!! This would not be a big deal if he changed his favorite often, which he does not. He has had the same favorite book for years ( Christie the Kings servant). It was so highly praised that it became our next family read aloud and no one can wait for bed time to hear the story, myself included!! The redemption story is so powerful and the characters so real. This story grabs you from the beginning and reaches your heart fast! Another life changing, relevant story from a wonderful ministry! Love Lamplighter!!!

Excellent Book! This is definitely one of my favorite books from Lamplighter! I love that Tode (or Theo) does NOT start off as a little paragon of perfection, but that his life rapidly changes as soon as his heart turns toward God, through his love for one of God’s faithful servants. It is comparatively easy to read, well-paced, and is a great story in its own right. Thank you, Lamplighter!

Another Favorite Our family owns many Lamplighter books, and this is now one of my favorites. The story clearly dispels the myth of, “I will be able to serve Jesus better when…” Tode (Theo) exemplifies that we can serve the Lord warts and all (pardon the pun) wherever we are and whatever the circumstances. Opportunities abound if there is a desire to serve like the Bishop. What a charming book with a touching and inspiring message.

Highly Recommend I loved this book. It was great. It wasn’t just about getting wealth. It was about serving the Lord.
