After her brother Jack sails for Jamaica, Maidie is left to stay with her impossible-to-please aunt. But not for long. Seeking solitude and an escape from overwhelming darts of despair, Maidie takes off to find a moment of peace. But instead she faces a whole new world of both trouble and blessing.

Never imagining what might happen after falling asleep aboard a canvased dingy, Maidie soon realizes that her dreams of a sea voyage have come true! But the crew of this unworthy vessel prove that this is not a place for a child. Hungry and frightened, Maidie hears the unfamiliar voices of two  fishermen trying to figure out what to do with her. “How much has she heard? If she knows our secret, we can’t take her back.”

Maidie will not return any time soon. But she finds a friend in Haco, who has deep thoughts for a sailor, and loves to share them with Maidie. His desire is to do great things—and so their adventures begin.

They head for the rocks and cliffs, but a storm is brewing, becoming more treacherous by the sea. The howling winds are followed by a gun firing, but no—a ship just crashed on the rocks! With no time to lose, they rush to the scene, giving no heed to the danger ahead. Within moments they’re engaged in a terrifying and tragic rescue!

This is a story of sacrifice, faith, and love. Through it all, Maidie comes to realize that there is One whose love is so great that He gave His very life for her.
