It takes unwavering courage to withstand the power of peer pressure, especially when it requires standing alone. Geoffrey’s demonstration of true friendship and faith knows no bounds. The ridicule and taunting he endures does not prevent him from risking his life for the safety of his friends. Wonderful Story What a wonderful story of faithfulness! Geoffrey is a shining example of what it is to stand alone in the midst of bullying, unkindness and peer pressure. Even I want to be “More like Geoffrey”!

Somewhat Recommended The underlying theme of bravery in this book is Goeffrey’s silence, but it should be his speaking the truth, even if it means incriminating a guilty party. Though this is acknowledged by the end by his father, it is too marginalized, and it does not account for this father’s neglect of active governing of the children in his care.

Half way through I’m about half way through this book as a read aloud. As another review said, it’s rather sad that he didn’t confide in his father. I think a different setting for the story might have made it a bit better.

However, this world is FULL of peer pressure. And in that instance, I think showing his strength against it is a convicting story.

We have simply discussed it as we read the story so far. I think there are always going to be times when our children (for whatever reason) do not want to go to their parents but they still need to stand for truth. So it’s a good example of that so far.

One of the Best Books I’ve Ever Read The story was so touching. I know at the end of the book it told us not to be sad, but I can’t help feeling sorry for all the hard things Arthur put him through. I often found myself getting mad at Arnold or Geoffrey, for not remaining loyal to him. Awesome book!

Touching You won’t be able to put this down. What an incredible story of forgiveness and faithfulness! I have read it along with two family members who also LOVED it and couldn’t put it down!

Be Like Geoffrey I was not anxious to read this book, because I’d heard it was a sad one, but once I started, I couldn’t put it down! This is one I’ll most likely read aloud to my kids (ages 18, 12 & 10). The lessons in this book are well worth the time! The emotions you feel are from anger due to injustice, to sadness due to one causing harm to another, to joy and relief! The writer, Evelyn Everett-Green, has done a superb job at arousing your emotions and making you sympathize with her characters; not just for Geoffrey, but the one telling the story and even the antagonist! Many great lessons in faith, courage, standing for Christ and choosing to do right even when “everyone else” is doing the opposite and criticizing you for your stand; not fearing to tell the truth and consequences when you don’t! An excellent read! Go for it!

Spirit of Christ in a Heart Wrenching Story What can I say about such a powerful book. You will probably cry at the end, not because of grief but a mixture of sadness and Joy. This book really gets to your heart, it gives you a perspective into the heart of a Godly young boy, and one who grew up to tell the story. You won’t regret reading it!

Touches the Heart This book is a sweet and realistic story about the difference that the light of Jesus Christ makes in the life of a boy. I loved this boy and was very touched by the ending. It also encouraged me, a grandmother who realizes the brevity of life. I think it would be a great one for a family to share. Many lessons are presented. So glad this one is in my library!

READ IT Virtuous. This was an amazing read. I would put this and That Printer of Udell’s as my favorite reads & possibly Self Raised. From beginning to end it was an enjoyable read. I understood what is meant by “boyhood hero” quickly and loved little Geoffrey. He grasped bearing the cross for the sake of Christ & loving your enemies quite well. I also loved the lack of violence in this book. (Except a boy being cruel to animals) definitely worth it to purchase it & share along.
