2024

Summer Reading Challenge

Grow in your Christian walk and character as you learn to become a partaker of the divine nature, and “make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:1-11).

Challenge Begins

May 27th-August 17th

The 2024 Summer Reading Challenge ends soon (don’t forget to submit your completed activity sheets)!

This year’s challenge will take you through each of the character traits listed in 2 Peter 1:1-11. Each week you’ll be given a new theme, book recommendations, Bible memory, and fun projects. Keep track of your points as you go along to win prizes at the end of the challenge!

Start the Challenge:

Week 1: Diligence

Start the challenge HERE.

And beside this, giving all diligence… (2 Peter 1:5a).

Welcome to week one of the Summer Reading Challenge! We are excited to begin this journey with you, and our prayer is that in doing this challenge it might lead you closer to our Savior and a lifetime of seeking Him with all your heart!

So, without further ado, let’s begin!

Week 2: Faith

Start the challenge HERE.

…giving all diligence, add to your faith… (2 Peter 1:5b).

Welcome to week two of the Summer Reading Challenge! This week’s theme is adding to your FAITH, and we are going to explore what that phrase means to us as followers of Christ.

Are you ready to jump in?

Week 3: Virtue

Start the week three challenge HERE.

It’s already week three of the Summer Reading Challenge! Hope you’re keeping up!

Ready for this week’s theme? Last week we learned how the word “add” carries the idea of choreographing a theatrical performance at one’s own expense. This week we are going to talk about what we can add to our faith: virtue! Now virtue is probably a word that you’ve heard about a lot. But do you know what it really means?

Week 4: Knowledge

Start the week 4 challenge HERE.

…and to virtue, knowledge… (2 Peter 1:6).

When you think of the word knowledge, what comes to mind? Do you picture an aged man hunched over a dusty desk covered in papers? Or maybe you imagine a young girl reading a massive book with glasses that are waaay too big for her face. Today, we’re going to talk about a whole new way of thinking about knowledge. Let’s dig in!

Week 5: Self-Control

Start the week 5 challenge HERE

…and to knowledge, self-control… (2 Peter 1:6).

Hup, two, three, four! Are you ready for your marching orders?

It’s week five of the summer reading challenge (we’re almost to the half-way point!), and we are about to embark on a journey to learn about a very crucial, much needed, and very hard to acquire fruit of the spirit—self-control!

Week 6: Patience

Start the week 6 challenge HERE

…and to self-control, patience… (2 Peter 1:6).

Quick, pull out your spyglass! Is that what I think it is? Land ahoy! Land ahoy!

We’re at the halfway point of the summer reading challenge, sailors. Can you believe it? As we continue our journey and prepare for landing, we have the perfect word to get us to the other side: Patience.

Week 7: Godliness

Start the week 7 challenge HERE

…and to patience, godliness (2 Peter 1:6).

Huff huff, pant, pant…keep up the pace and keep breathing! Pump those arms! Are you drinking enough water? Don’t forget to hydrate! We’ve got a race to win!—but there is one important thing we need to do to make sure our faith muscles don’t get flabby. We need to be trained in godliness.

Week 8: Brotherly Kindness

Start the week 8 challenge HERE

…and to godlines, brotherly kindness… (2 Peter 1:7).

Mmmm…something smells quite delicious! I wonder what’s cooking? What could possibly fill the room with such a sweet fragrance?

Brotherly kindness, you say? Why, how does that taste?

Week 9: Love

Start the week 9 challenge HERE

…and to brotherly kindness, love (2 Peter 1:7).

Scritch, scratch, scritch, scratch… Hmmm. I think I need a little more ink…dip!

There. That’s better. Now, how shall I continue?

Roses are red, violets are blue—no, no, no—that doesn’t work…hm…

Week 10: Superabundant Fruit!

Start the week 10 challenge HERE

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:8).

Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Tweet-tweet. Tweet-tweet.

Mmmm. I love walking through a beautiful garden; the sights, sounds, and smells are divine! Wouldn’t you agree? Just look at the colors of those flowers—how they stand out against the lovely green foliage. And see that bee? God perfectly crafted its fluffy little body to pollinate the flowers and bring us a delicious treat—honey!

God created us for a special purpose too. Do you know what that is?

Week 11: The Adventure of Faith

Start the week 11 challenge HERE

For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins (2 Peter 1:9).

Wake up sleepy heads! The suns up and we should be too! Are you ready for another exciting day in this adventure called faith?

Let’s go!

Week 12: You will never fail

Start the week 12 challenge HERE

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble (2 Peter 1:10-11).

Welcome to the last (but not least) week of the Summer Reading Challenge! You’ll want to grab a pencil and a piece of fresh white paper for your “final exam.” While God has given us breath in our lungs, we still have treasures to uncover, work to do, lessons to learn, and a race to run!

The conclusion

Read the conclusion HERE.

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:11).

We finally made it! You have completed the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge, and now you should be closer than ever to the great reward—also known as the Grand Entrance Celebration! Haven’t heard of the Grand Entrance Celebration?
