Q: When does the reading challenge begin and end?
A: Start date is May 1, 2020 and the end date is August 15, 2020.
Q: How do I sign up for the reading challenge?
A: Visit lamplighter.net/summerreadingchallenge.
Q: How do I calculate the number of pages read?
A: You may count the number of pages read based on the page number at the end of the book. (For example, if a book starts on page 9 and ends on 131, you count it as 131 pages read.)
Q: How many tracks can I enter?
A: Each person can only enter one track. As long as you complete the minimum points required, you will receive the listed prize.
Q: What are the deadlines?
A: All points must be submitted by August 15th, 2020.
Q: May I participate if I’m not within the United States?
A: Yes. Everything is done electronically so you may participate from anywhere.
Q: May I read a story published by another publisher as long as it is a book Lamplighter publishes?
A: No. In order to keep everyone reading the same content, we ask that only Lamplighter editions be read for this challenge.
Q: How many times can I do each activity?
A: As many times as you would like. Don’t forget to add them to your activity sheet.
Q: How do I know how many points are awarded for the book that I am reading?
A: 1 point is awarded per page that you read.
Q: Can I count books I have read that are not carried by Lamplighter?
A: We encourage you to be a well-rounded reader; however, for our summer reading challenge, we ask that you only count Lamplighter books toward your points. This will help keep all scoring and activities fair. Click HERE to check out our summer bundles!
Q: How many children can register per family?
A: There is no limit to the number of participants per family.
Q: Is there an age limit for the Summer Reading Challenge?
A: No! Any and all ages are welcome to get involved. Although the program is primarily geared toward children, we’re thrilled that adults want to participate as well! We have a selection of books that are geared toward adults or more scholarly readers. Click HERE to take a peek!
Q: Can families do activities together?
A: Yes, please do! As long as each child is involved somehow, please feel free to do activities together.
Q: If I buy a new Lamplighter book and each of my children read it, can I count the additional 100 points for each child?
A: The intention behind the “buy a new Lamplighter book” activity is this: to teach children to value the worth of a book, and to learn perseverance in working toward a goal. Maybe your children will save money to buy one by doing a car wash for the neighbors, helping around the house, or selling lemonade! At the same time, we realize that it may not always be practical for you to have each child trying to earn all the money they need for a book, especially by the end of this program. Therefore, we leave it to the parent’s discretion on how to encourage their children to earn the money for those items in exchange for which the parent could then purchase the book for the child.
Q: Each point category lists a lot of activities. Do I have to complete all those activities to earn that many points?
A: No. Each activity within a point category is worth the amount of points specified.
Q: How do I obtain a Comprehension Quiz for a Lamplighter book that I have read?
A: Use coupon code SRCQUIZ to download all available comprehension quizzes.
