Did you know that 66% of people read email seven days a week and expect to receive a response the same day? And 61% continue to check email while on vacation, 41% check it first thing in the morning, and 56% have anxiety if they can’t access email!
In 2005, a psychiatrist at King’s College in London concluded that drug users did better on IQ tests than email junkies. Another study from USC showed that social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook harm and cripple the moral values of their users.
Not only is there a crippling of values but of one’s discernment. The author of Hebrews gives us wise counsel when he writes, “for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice, to distinguish good from evil.”
Along with immersion in the Word of God, I recommend reading the book, Amusing Ourselves to Death by Postman and watching the video, Captivated by Phillip Telfer. These resources will open your eyes to the dangers of our digital world in ways you cannot imagine!
By the way, Phillip Telfer won first place for his film documentary promotional on the Lamplighter Guild at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and will be teaching at the Lamplighter Guild this July? You can view the short video HERE!
