Join the 2020 Lamplighter Challenge! This challenge will last from Saturday, March 21st through Saturday, April 4th. Earn points for participating in activities. This is just a two-week challenge, so sign up today and get started! We will launch our annual summer reading challenge at a later time.

To register for the challenge, click HERE. If you have any questions, please contact us at sarah@lamplighter.net or call 1-888-246-7735.

How It Works

  • Choose a track (see below).

  • Select the activities you’d like to do. If an activity does not designate that the source of the activity be a Lamplighter book or audio, then it may be any book or audio of your choice.

  • Print out the activity sheet to record your progress. Click HERE to download the activity sheet.

  • Submit your activity sheets no later than 12:00 noon EST, Monday, April 6, 2020, by clicking HERE or by emailing them to sarah@lamplighter.net. Please submit all activity sheets at one time. Be sure to use the subject line 2020 Lamplighter Challenge if sending it via email.

  • Only the top 4 winners of each track will be awarded, so do as many activities as you can! Note: There is a minimum number of points required to be eligible for an award. See each track for details.

Points Awarded for Activities
Points are not awarded for each page read during this challenge.

25 points

  • Create a drawing, painting, or creative photo that pertains to a Lamplighter book or audio. (Track 1 participants may be assisted by an older sibling or parent. Make it a group activity!)
  • Build a model from legos, linkin logs, or other materials to diagram an important scene from a Lamplighter book or audio. (Track 1 participants may be assisted by an older sibling or parent. Make it a group activity!)
  • Share with us your favorite Lamplighter book. Explain why it is your favorite and how it influenced your life. Send it to sarah@lamplighter.net. (Explanations should be a minimum of 50 words.)
  • Read a Lamplighter book or a book of the Bible in its entirety.
  • Listen to a You Are There audio drama.

    50 points

  • Memorize a Scripture verse or verses from any book you have read or any audio you’ve listened to. (Points are awarded per passage, not per verse.)
  • Read a Lamplighter chapter book or a book of the Bible in its entirety to a younger sibling or child. The reader may not claim the 25 points for reading the book in addition to the 50 points. (These 50 points can be awarded to both participants.)
  • Act out a favorite scene from a book you’ve read recently for your siblings, parents, or others.

    75 points

  • Make an eye-catching book cover which portrays, in an intriguing way, an introduction to the plot of your favorite Lamplighter story.
  • Do the Frozen Fire interactive devotional! Sign up to receive it HERE. (This can be done as a family and the points awarded to each participant.)
  • Read a Lamplighter biography, resource or scholar book.

    100 points

  • Read a biography and write a three-paragraph essay on the person you read about. Be sure to tell what made him/her great and how this person’s life inspires you. Click HERE to check out some amazing biographies.
  • Write a one-page “journal entry” on any book you’ve read and send it to us at sarah@lamplighter.net. Be sure to use the subject line Journal Entry. Don’t summarize the story, instead discuss the following:
    • How the book influenced your life.
    • How the author used Scripture to mold the story, and which Scripture references they used.
  • Write a three-stanza poem or character sketch of an admirable character from a Lamplighter book. Be sure to include what traits made this character admirable and how the character challenged you.
  • Film a short scene from a Lamplighter book. For added fun, post it to your Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest page for others to see using #2020LamplighterChallenge.
  • 200 points

  • Write a four-paragraph devotional based on a lesson you’ve learned from the Scriptures.
  • Create something out of fabric, wood, or metal that pertains to something specific in a book (or the Bible) you are currently reading. (For example: an apron, a wooden ship, a candlestick)

    250 Points

  • Read the book Not a Chance, formerly The Boy Who Never Lost a Chance, and submit a new and better title. After reading the book, submit suggested titles to sarah@lamplighter.net using the subject line: Not a Chance Submission.

    Bonus Points:
Select a Wisdom quote (or quotes) from the list attached HERE and find at least one supporting Scripture for it. You can have up to five Scriptures for each one, but one is sufficient to receive the bonus points if the contextual meaning of the verse supports the Wisdom quote thoroughly. You will receive a bonus 50 points for each Wisdom quote that is sufficiently supported. Bonus points will only be awarded if the contextual meaning of the verse(s) thoroughly supports the quote. Submit Wisdom Quote(s) and supporting Scripture with completed Activity Sheets.

Please email us copies of the amazing activities you create so we can share your hard work with others: sarah@lamplighter.net. You can also share your activity results on social media using #2020LampligherChallenge. Enjoy the challenge!

As you can see, there are a lot of options for earning points! Lamplighter reserves the right to use any entry in part or in full for advertising purposes.
