“And Moses called Bezeleel and Aholiab, and every wise hearted man, in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom, even everyone whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it.”
~ Exodus 36
This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible! I love the phrase, “whose heart stirred him up.” What stirs your heart?
Here at Lamplighter we seem to have a continual stirring of our hearts. Here a few “heart-stirring” events of 2015:
Early in January we moved our inventory from a warehouse to our facility in Mt. Morris, NY. Our beautiful Classic Gothic church building was being turned into a warehouse! Though it was sad to see in the sense that it no longer functioned as a church, we were grateful for the opportunity to be good stewards of that which is entrusted to us. Twelve months later this space was transformed into a beautiful library/book depository with over 30,000 stunning Lamplighter books displayed on 9-foot-tall bookcases between exquisite stained glass windows. If you come to visit, you will want to bring your camera!
Since printing our first book, The Basket of Flowers, in 1977 we now have nearly 200 books. This has been a special year. Seven books were considered to be selected Book of the Year! We landed on A’Strordinary Little Maid and The Locked Cupboard. But you can be sure that each of this year’s books are among the top books Lamplighter has ever published. Why? Because in each of these stories the Word of God comes alive!
Here’s a summary of our work this past year:
The Alabaster Box
The Captain’s Sword
The Locked Cupboard
Ned Franks: The One-Armed Sailor
Phil Tyler’s Stand
Pride and His Prisoners
A ’Strordinary Little Maid
Trusty Faces His Fear
Over forty million copies in print. Internationally acclaimed as the most inspiring message that rallies individuals to take the INITIATIVE in doing the right thing.
Where was Jesus between the ages of twelve and thirty? Morgan’s keen eye and discerning mind reveal not only Christ’s activities, but our responsibilities for daily life.
May this rare copy of wise thoughts for young men and women challenge you to take captive every thought unto the obedience of Christ.
You are about to experience a story that takes children to the next level in their journey with the Lord, their fight against sin, and their cultivation of character.
Using the metaphorical imagery of a near catastrophe in an unfettered hot-air balloon, A.L.O.E. unapologetically illustrates our natural inclination to yield to the temptations of our enemy, Pride.
The Little Preacher
The little preacher softens the most hardened hearts. If you believe that nothing is impossible with God, then this story is for you! And if you don’t believe it, then this story is for you!
In this thrilling account of Judas Maccabeus and the Battle of Emmaus, A.L.O.E. paints a grand picture of the exploits of one of Judah’s noblest heroes during times of great peril.
This compelling story follows the changing life of young Lettice as she makes her way through the linn. Will the black pool envelope her, or will the rays of love bring brightness back to her youthful days?
Through God’s provision, Faith learns of the tender love of her heavenly Father. During times of struggle and sorrow, she waits for Him to answer her prayers. And in ways she would never have imagined, He does!
After a two-year sabbatical, Lamplighter Theatre produced its eighteenth drama, Frozen Fire! Executive producer Mark Hamby and producer John Fornof believe this to be one of the Lamplighter’s best dramas because of the spiritual truths woven throughout. This is a must-have in your family arsenal of godly influences. In February, we will be in London, God willing, to record our next two dramas: A Strordinary Little Maid and The Locked Cupboard!
Interns in Action
Media Detox Initiative
In October Mark traveled with four interns to Pine Grove Baptist Church in Dugspur, VA, to share our new Media Detox Initiative. The week was highlighted by the breaking out of the Spirit on the third evening, during the message of The Blind and the Lame from 2Samuel 5. The last night was a blessing as we joined the Jost family in concert. This was a memory that will not be forgotten in this life-time!
We can’t count the number of picnics, chicken barbeques, and bocce ball games we had this year…but we do believe that God loves barbecues and so do we!
Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra
I love seeing the expression on our interns’ faces when they see for the first time the painted ceiling at the Eastman School of Music which houses the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. This trip inspires them to strive for mastery and excellence and fulfill the admonition in 2 Peter 1—divine partnership!
Wow, we were busy this year working at breakneck speed! It was hard to keep books on the shelves, and the bindery equipment was smoking! If you have never toured our bindery, please come and visit us in 2016. When you arrive you will be greeted by our bindery manager Peter who will tap on the sign that reads, “No eating, drinking, or small thinking beyond this point!”
A Guild Campus?
Many are asking if the Guild campus will become a reality. Only God knows but if it is, and Mark believes that it will soon be a reality, students will be able to learn from master teachers year round!
Family Foundations conference
We have already begun planning for the 2016 Family Foundations Conference…watch for the announcement!
A New Hope Concert with Michael Card
What a way to end the year! With two sold-out performances, our newly renovated 19th century church building resounded with the beautiful music of Michael Card, as we offered a sweet fragrance of worship to our LORD. With horse and carriage rides, violin, flute, guitars, accordion, and harmonica, this was an evening that will reside in our hearts and memories for years to come, giving us A New Hope!
Radio: 30-Minute Infomercial
Radio announcer Patrick Powel leads Mark in a 30-minute powerful interview about what the world needs most—and it’s not protection from ISIS! Listen here: www.lamplighter.net/christmasfamilyspecial
We did it! Our first animation with Trusty Faces His Fear. To view, visit www.lamplighter.net/trusty-the-train
Video and Audio Promos
The Locked Cupboard and Frozen Fire video promos as well as audio promos of humorous A ’Strordinary Little Maid and a very dramatic Frozen Fire audio were wonderful highlights of our staff’s creativity. We really do love what we do and do what we love! To view and listen go to www.lamplighter.net/resources/media
Our bell tower was finally cleaned out and prepared to be our future prayer tower! All we need now are spiral steps, and we will have an 85-foot prayer tower overlooking the valley and village. I can’t wait! To all pigeons who historically thought of our church building as their personal residence—this serves as your conviction notice!
2016 Coming Soon!
This is what we’re looking forward to in 2016:
With our new facility ready to go, the next project is to build a Recording Studio. We pray that the Lord will help us have our studio in place in 2016 so that we can continue to influence millions more through His Word in our own recording studio!
2015 was a fabulous year for the Guild! With Dr. Ravi Zacharias, Stephen Kendrick, Colin Smith, and the Lamplighter Theatre team, this was one of the most powerful Guilds yet. God willing, our new campus will allow students to attend a Guild-like school for nine months out of the year. Please pray that this will happen, and that God will raise up the finances to start in 2016…pray that the owner of the adjacent 250 acres will sell to us and we can start building in 2016!
Media Detox Initiative
Our first Media Detox Initiative started in October, 2015, in Dugspur Virginia. This project will be greatly used of God as Christians begin to see how subtle and damaging the media has been—not just to their minds and hearts, but to their very souls. Watch for news of this initiative coming soon to your church!
In November our board decided to pray three times a day for the needed staff here at Lamplighter. That has been an exciting and life-changing component to our ministry. Thank you, God, for our board!
Well, this review is quite lengthy, and it barely covers a quarter of the year, but hopefully this will give you just enough to know that your support and prayers have been essential and so encouraging. Please know that in 2016 “We will bee expecting you, and you are always welcome here at Lamplighter.”
Praise God that He has stirred our hearts to stand in the gap as we creatively connect God’s Word to the hearts of those who are perishing. The greatest blessing of 2015 has not been all of the wonderful blessings above, though they are truly eternal blessings, but the greatest blessing of 2015 has been the love that has grown between each of us here at Lamplighter! This is a staff that truly loves one another, and we can’t wait to see how God will use us in 2016. We eagerly anticipate meeting new staff members who will be added to our team. May God raise up the men and women needed to fill the positions of Operations, Secretarial, Marketing, Development, Graphics, and Web-tech.
